She works with our younger patients helping them to feel relaxed and comfortable, especially if it is their first time visiting the dentist. She also takes appointments on Saturdays in order to cater for children’s timetables!

Looking after your babies new teeth

When your babies’ milk teeth start to surface it is important to begin an oral health routine. This includes brushing their teeth two times a day, and making sure their diet is not full of sugar hidden away in certain food items. There is other information to take on board when your baby becomes a toddler. Less damage is done to your toddler’s teeth if they eat a whole bag of sweets in one go rather than a few every hour over the course of a day. It is better for your child to eat something sweet after a meal and remember things like fruit juices and smoothies contain sugar.

Do you need to brush milk teeth?

It is of utmost importance that you look after your child’s milk teeth, not only for the health of their mouths, but they can also affect their ability to speak and also their facial aesthetics as well as leaving space for the adult teeth to grow. Regular six monthly check-ups are not needed straight away, but the earlier you bring them to the dentist the sooner they can get used to the experience. If they see mum and dad happy and relaxed at the dentist, then this will rub off on them. Similarly, if you get anxious when going to the dentist and link going to the dentist as a negative thing, your child will pick this up and start to copy your behaviour. This can then affect their oral health for the rest of their lives, which is why creating a happy, fun and relaxed environment for them from an early age is vitally important.
