-
Toothache
Toothache is usually caused by infection, although it can occur for several reasons. If your toothache is worsening over time, clean your mouth out with warm water and then floss gently in order to eliminate bits of food debris that might cause infection. Specialist mouthwashes like Corsodyl can be used to help stop excess bacteria. It is true that over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen can relieve tooth and gum pain, but never let the tablet rest against the gums. This can actually burn the gum tissue. Also make sure that you read the label before taking medication, and avoid exceeding the recommended dosage.
-
Swelling
Swelling tends to occur due to infection. If you’re experiencing swelling in the mouth, there might be a slight infection in your teeth and/or gum tissue, or it could be the beginning of a dental abscess that needs to be drained. Infected swelling normally feels quite warm and tender to the touch. You must call us straight away so that the swelling can be diagnosed accurately. You will then be prescribed the appropriate treatment, along with a course of antibiotics if necessary.
-
Loose veneers, bridges and crowns
It is essential to keep the veneer or crown secure so that you can get it re-cemented as soon as possible so that further damage is prevented. Your tooth might be sensitive to temperature, so avoid eating and drinking on it and contact Harley Street Dental Studio without delay to secure an emergency appointment.
-
Broken teeth
If you have suffered from an injury that has resulted in part of your tooth being knocked out or damaged, contact our practice immediately to get an emergency appointment. Rinsing your mouth with warm water will be helpful, although the area may be sensitive to temperature. You can also apply a cold compress to reduce any swelling.
-
Knocked out teeth
If a tooth has been knocked out, hold it up softly by the crown and clean it with care. There may still be gum tissue attached, so in this case keep it in place. If you are unable to do this, put the tooth into a container of milk, or gently place the tooth in your mouth, against the cheek, until you are able to see us.
