Our sedation services are available to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during your treatment with us. When sedated you will be conscious, but unaware of what is going on around you. There are three types of sedation available:
Your dentist will be able to help you decide which type of sedation is right for you. For longer or more complicated treatments IV sedation may be advisable. In this instance there will be a charge as the skills and services of an Anaesthetist or Sedationist are required.
At Harley Street Dental Studio, our IV Sedation is administered either by a trained Anaesthetist or Sedationsit. Our visiting clinicians are highly experienced in anaesthesia and sedation and work at many Harley Street clinics, private dental practices and hospitals across London and the UK.
Oral Sedation and Inhalation Sedation are provided in house by our dentists and team of nurses. These are the more commonly used types of sedation. If you are anxious or nervous when visiting the dentist then sedation can be very helpful to keep you relaxed and calm during your appointment.
When receiving sedation you will be fully informed beforehand of any potential side effects and given advice to help with your recovery. If you opt for Oral Sedation, you will need to bring someone along with you to the appointment who is able to take you home afterwards, and it is advisable to rest for the remainder of the day.
The advantages of Inhalation Sedation, or ‘Happy Air’, are that the recovery time is much quicker and it can be used for a wider range of people including children. Inhalation Sedation uses a mix of Oxygen and Nitrous Oxide to induce a relaxed feeling that many people describe as feeling like you are in a warm comfy bed, it also blocks pain.
