Articles What do the White Spots on your Teeth Mean and What Can You Do about Them?
Have you got white spots on your teeth? If so, we have a treatment that can help.
What causes white spots?
White spots can develop on the teeth for several reasons. In most cases, they are linked to:
- Fluorosis: this occurs as a result of excessive exposure to fluoride when the adult teeth are growing
- Trauma: if you were involved in an accident when you were younger, you may find that you have white spots on your teeth
- Decalcification: when minerals are lost from the enamel, this can cause result in white spots forming on the teeth; this is usually a result of poor oral hygiene. It may also be caused by wearing braces if you’re unable to clean around the brackets properly
- MIH (molar incisal hypoplasia)
What can be done?
At Harley Street Dental Studio, we want all our patients to feel confident about their smiles. If you have white spots, and you don’t like the appearance of your smile, we can use a treatment called icon. Before treatment, the tooth surface is etched and dried, and then Icon resin is applied to the tooth and set using a light. This creates a protective barrier, which reduces the risk of further damage to the tooth, and provides aesthetic benefits. Following Icon treatment, you won’t be able to notice the white spots, and hopefully, you’ll feel more confident when you look in the mirror.
If you’re keen to find out more about Icon or you’d like to book an appointment, give us a call or get in touch online.
