Articles What Are Inter-dental Brushes And How Do They Work For Patients In London?

How can we help?

You may have heard your dentist or dental hygienist recommend inter-dental brushes, but what are they and do you really need them?

Inter-dental brushes are small brushes, which are designed to clean in between the teeth; they help to reduce your risk of oral diseases, including gum disease and tooth decay by removing bacteria from your mouth.

About inter-dental brushes

Inter-dental brushes are small brushes, which have a little handle and a head full of bristles; they are usually brightly coloured. There are different sizes of inter-dental brushes available and they are usually different colours according to the size.

Inter-dental brushes are used to brush between the teeth. It is often very difficult to clean inside the cracks between the teeth with a regular toothbrush and this means that plaque and food debris can gather in the gaps; with inter-dental brushes, this is not a problem and your risk of decay and gum disease will be lower.

Do I really need inter-dental brushes?

We recommend using inter-dental brushes, especially if you do not floss on a regular basis. It is very easy for food particles to become trapped in the gaps between the teeth and this can lead to a build-up of bacteria which is hard to remove with normal brushing alone.

How do I use inter-dental brushes?

It can take a few goes to get used to using inter-dental brushes, but it will soon become second nature. We will happily show you how to use the brushes and also recommend the best size brush for you. If you have any questions about oral hygiene or oral hygiene products, don’t hesitate to ask us at Harley Street Dental Studio in London!
