Dr Crystal Marruganti

After qualifying in dentistry from the University of Florence, Dr Crystal Marruganti embarked on a PhD in periodontology at the University of Siena, Italy, where she also undertook clinical training.

Her research interests examine the links between periodontitis, lifestyle and systemic diseases, as well as the effective management of periodontal conditions.

From 2021-2022, Crystal worked as a research fellow at the University of Pisa before joining the Periodontology Unit of the Eastman Dental Institute at University College London.

Crystal is a prolific lecturer and has published more than 30 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. She is an editorial board member of the Journal of Osseointegration and a reviewer for the leading journals in periodontology and implant dentistry.

Her work has won several prestigious awards, including the H.M. Goldman Prize for the best Basic Research by the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (SidP) in 2020 and the Robert Frank Prize for the best Senior Clinical Research by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) in 2022.

She was nominated as the representative for the Continental European Division at the Hatton Awards in 2023 and was a finalist for the British Society of Periodontology’s Sir Wilfred Fish Research Prize in 2022.

Crystal is a member of the Italian and the British Society of Periodontology (SidP and BSP), and the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).
