Why is Invisalign so popular?

Invisalign has so many benefits for patients that it’s hard to know where to begin! Perhaps the most obvious advantage of this system is the aesthetic; these aligners are made from clear plastic and they are virtually invisible when you speak and smile. The aligners also sit over the teeth, rather than being fixed onto them, so you don’t feel as restricted and you have the freedom to remove the aligner when you want to enjoy a meal or it’s time to brush your teeth. In terms of oral hygiene, it’s much easier to clean the teeth with removable braces and you van brush in the normal way, so gum disease and decay are not such a worry (it is however, important to ensure your aligners are kept clean and maintain good oral hygiene at home).

Invisalign aligners are also comfortable and they are versatile; they are suitable for adults and there is a specially designed treatment system for teenagers, called Invisalign Teen, available.

How does Invisalign treatment work?

Invisalign treatment is different to traditional orthodontic treatment because it uses a series of aligners, which are in place for 2 weeks at a time. Each aligner is different and all the aligners are pre-fabricated based on the patient’s individual treatment plan, which is created using state of the art software. Each patient receives a set of aligners, which are worn in the specified order. The aligners must be worn for at least 21 hours per day in order for treatment to be successful. The aligners generate forces, which cause the teeth to move; with each one slightly different, there is room for the teeth to move.
