In the past, patients who had orthodontic issues had very little choice when it came to treatment, but now things are completely different and patients today have a huge range of options available to them. One of the biggest bugbears of patients in previous decades was the look of braces and the subsequent impact on their appearance. Now, we are able to offer treatments, such as Invisalign, which are almost completely invisible, so you don’t have to worry about your image at all.
Invisalign offers a completely different outlook on orthodontic treatment to traditional braces, as it uses a number of appliances and the teeth are straightened by removable aligners, rather than fixed orthodontics made of brackets and wires. Invisalign aligners work in a series and patients swap their aligners over every two weeks.
Another major difference between traditional braces and Invisalign is the look of the appliance. Invisalign aligners are made from clear parts and they are almost completely invisible to others when they are in place over the top of the teeth. There are no metal parts or bands and the aligners sit over the teeth, rather than being fixed onto them.
Invisalign is also a flexible solution, as you can take the aligners out. This not only gives you more freedom, but also means that you don’t have to adapt the way you eat or clean your teeth. There is also no danger of getting food stuck in your braces.
Invisalign has benefits for most patients, but we won’t be able to say whether it is a suitable choice for you until we have analysed your bite and examined your teeth in detail. This option is great for patients with minor or moderate needs, but it may not be the best solution if you need a lot of movement. We can assess your suitability and discuss your options during your consultation.
