What are Damon Braces and what are their advantages?

Damon Braces use new technology; they are comprised of small, discreet self-ligating brackets, meaning that they are superior to traditional metal braces in a number of ways. They are less visible and obtrusive, meaning there is less need to be self-conscious about your appearance – although they are not quite as discreet as ‘invisible braces’.   Damon braces also offer greater comfort than traditional metal braces, due to the friction-free brackets, ensuring there is no rubbing of wires against gums.  It is also much easier to maintain good oral hygiene while wearing Damon braces, as they do not use the same elastic ties as metal braces meaning that they do not attract bacteria as much. It is also much less common to need teeth extracted for fitting with Damon braces. Finally, Damon braces allow for relatively fast treatment, especially compared to traditional braces; treatment usually lasts between six and fifteen months. This can mean that treatment with Damon braces can require four to six months less than treatment with other types of braces. The braces will be designed to fit you individually, and can be fitted in one visit, after which you’ll need to visit your orthodontist for small check-ups every ten weeks.
