Dental pain is one of things that many of us admit to ignoring, but it can be a sign of underlying dental issues that may get worse with time. If you have dental pain, particularly if you’re suffering from pain on a regular basis or the pain is severe or throbbing, we strongly recommend seeing your dentist. What causes dental pain?
There are various injuries and oral diseases that may cause pain, including dental decay, injuries such as a chipped or broken tooth, dental abscesses and sensitivity. Often, dental pain is nothing to worry about, but it can be a sign of serious dental issues and we always advise patients in pain to get checked out.

In many cases, tooth pain can be symptomatic of issues that progress, such as decay, and seeing a dentist at an early stage enables us to treat you quickly and prevent you from experiencing any further discomfort or damage to the tooth.
Treatment for dental pain
When you see your dentist they will check for signs of problems that could be causing you pain and then determine the best course of action. If you have sensitive teeth or tooth pain and this is caused by enamel wear and cavities, a filling may be the best solution. If a tooth is broken, we may recommend a new crown.
If you have a dental abscess, this should be treated urgently, as abscesses are very painful and there is a risk of infection spreading. Dental abscess are drained and removed and you will be given pain relief medication to make you feel more comfortable.
