Articles Why Are There Three Types of Invisalign Treatment?

How can we help?

Invisalign is one of the world’s most popular orthodontic treatments. If you’ve heard about Invisalign and you’ve been doing some research, you may have noticed that there are three different types of Invisalign treatment. This is to provide treatment options for a wide range of patients with varying orthodontic needs.

Invisalign

Invisalign is the original system. It is designed to benefit patients with mild or moderate orthodontic needs, and it works by using a series of bespoke, removable aligners to reposition the teeth. Each aligner remains in place for 2 weeks and then you swap the brace over for the next appliance in the sequence. Invisalign aligners are made from clear plastic, and they work best when left in for at least 21 hours per day.

Invisalign Teen

Invisalign Teen is essentially very similar to the original Invisalign treatment, but it has been adapted slightly to cater for younger patients. The aligners have a coloured indicator, which reminds teenage patients when to swap their aligners over, and spare aligners are also provided. This helps to prevent disruption and delays when an aligner is lost or misplaced. Like traditional Invisalign aligners, Invisalign Teen braces are made from transparent plastic, and each brace is worn for 2 weeks.

Invisalign Lite

Invisalign Lite is a treatment, which has been developed for patients with minor needs who require very little movement. The treatment process is exactly the same, but as the problems the braces are targeting are less complex, fewer aligners are required. Like Invisalign patients, those opting for Invisalign Lite treatment will receive a set of bespoke aligners. The average treatment time for Invisalign Lite is just 4-8 months, compared to 12-18 months for Invisalign.
