Articles White Fillings Work Wonders!

How can we help?

Our white fillings diminish decay and strengthen teeth whilst preserving your smile’s natural beauty. If you’re self-conscious about showing metal fillings when you smile, we can replace your old metal fillings with white composite fillings.

What are white fillings?

White fillings are made from a combination of dental composite and resins that match your tooth shade. There are many shades of composite available and your dentist will chose the match closest to your tooth shade. White fillings not only blend in with the natural shade of your teeth for ultimate discretion, they also provide a safer and more environmentally friendly alternative to metal amalgam fillings.

Why might I need a filling?

Fillings are generally used to treat decayed teeth when a cavity has formed. Filling the tooth makes it stronger and helps to protect it from damage and injury. The procedure to fill a tooth also helps to reduce the spread of bacteria through the tooth, decreasing the risk of severe infection.

What happens during the filling procedure?

Having a filling is nothing to worry about. The procedure is usually complete within an hour and is carried out under local anaesthetic so you won’t feel any discomfort. Before placing the filling inside the tooth, your dentist will clean the cavity and remove any traces of decayed tissue. Bonding material will then be placed inside the cavity and the composite will be moulded to fit the hole. Your dentist will then set the filling using a curing light and trim it to ensure a perfect fit.

After your filling has been placed, your tooth may feel numb for a short period of time and it’s advisable to avoid hard or chewy foods and hot drink until the numbness subsides.
