Articles Which Modern Braces Are Invisible In The Mouth?

How can we help?

One of the most exciting advantages of modern braces is that they offer the chance for patients to have treatment in secret. Invisible braces have made the prospect of wearing braces much less daunting for many patients, but which types of brace are available and are they suitable for everyone?

Invisible modern braces

There are two main types of invisible brace: clear aligner systems and lingual braces.

Aligners

Clear aligner systems, such as Invisalign, Clearstep and Simpli5 straighten the teeth using transparent removable appliances, which are barely visible when they are in position over the teeth. The aligners are custom-made for the individual and they work in sequence, so you use a series of appliances, rather than a single brace. Aligner treatments are generally recommended for those who have minor or moderate issues, which only require a limited amount of movement. In addition to offering virtually invisible aesthetics, aligners are also removable, which makes them very convenient; you can brush your teeth and eat as normal, so treatment has minimal impact on your day to day life.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are an increasingly popular option for teenagers and adults who wish to enjoy the benefits of orthodontic treatment without having to put up with the hassle and potential stresses of wearing a visible brace. Lingual braces are fixed braces, which are secured onto the back of the teeth; they work in a similar way to traditional fixed brace, with the added bonus that they are completely undetectable when you smile. Lingual braces can be used to address minor, moderate or complex orthodontic issues and they can be applied to the top and bottom teeth. The leading lingual brace systems include STb Social 6 braces and Incognito. STb Social 6 braces are designed to correct issues, which involve the social 6 only; this set of teeth comprises the front 6 top and bottom teeth. Incognito is a more intensive treatment and it can be beneficial for those looking for an alternative to conventional fixed braces.
