Articles What is Gum Re-Sculpting

How can we help?

If you have a gummy smile or your gums sit too high, gum re-sculpting might be just the solution!

When you have a gummy smile, your teeth can look small. In contrast, if your gums sit too high, your teeth may look unusually long. Gum re-sculpting enables us to create a much more balanced aesthetic and give you greater confidence when you smile.

What happens during gum re-sculpting?

In your consultation, we will assess your oral health. In some cases, high gums can signal gum recession, which can indicate gum disease. In this scenario, the gum disease would be treated as a priority. Dr Federico Tinti, our specialist periodontist, works alongside our cosmetic dentists to achieve incredible aesthetics.

In purely cosmetic cases, we carefully remove and reshape the gum tissue to expose more of the tooth crowns. This makes the teeth appear longer and will ensure that your smile looks more even and balanced.

What are the benefits of gum re-sculpting?

While a gummy smile doesn’t endanger your oral or general health, it can affect your confidence.  Being unhappy with your appearance can influence your self-esteem and therefore hold you back. Gum re-sculpting helps to create a more attractive smile, meaning you’ll feel comfortable and confident when your smile is on show.

Studies also show that an attractive smile can make you more employable and increase your appeal to potential partners.
