Articles The Most Common Suspects for Lingering Bad Breath

How can we help?

Bad breath is something most people have to deal with now and again, but if you have persistent bad breath it can have a negative impact on your confidence and wellbeing, as well as affecting the way other people perceive you. We can help to banish bad breath in London and ensure you feel confident and happy when you smile, meet new people or take on new tasks at work.

What causes bad breath?

Bad breath is caused by bacteria, which is linked to poor oral hygiene. When bacteria feed, they release gases that smell unpleasant. Many cases of bad breath are linked directly to bacteria lingering at the back of the tongue.

Other causes of bad breath include smoking, eating strongly flavoured foods and taking certain forms of medication.

Preventing bad breath

The best way to prevent bad breath is to keep your mouth clean. This can be achieved by brushing thoroughly twice a day, cleansing the tongue and flossing. It is also beneficial to see your dentist every six months and to keep an eye on your diet, as some foods can be harmful for your teeth and gums.
If you find that you have bad breath after eating certain foods or drinking coffee or tea, for example, it’s a good idea to carry sugar-free chewing gum with you.

Treating bad breath

If you have bad breath, we recommend seeing a dental hygienist. Our amazing hygienists offer intensive cleaning treatments, which remove bacteria and plaque from your mouth and polish and clean your teeth. You may need a couple of sessions and then regular follow-up treatments, but seeing a hygienist will help to get rid of bad breath for good, as well as helping to boost your oral health and reduce your risk of gum disease and tooth decay.
