Articles Soothe Your Nerves with Sedation in London
We offer sedation to make our clients feel as comfortable as possible during dental treatment. If you are a very nervous patient or you suffer from dental phobia, sedation can help you to feel relaxed and calm during your time in the dental chair.
The ins and outs of sedation
Sedation involves using medication to induce a state of profound relaxation. It is used widely in dentistry and medicine and can be particularly beneficial for those who feel anxious or nervous about having a dental procedure.
We offer three forms of sedation: intravenous, oral and inhalation. Your dentist will explain how the different types work and which method would suit you best.
When the effects of the sedative become apparent, you will feel drowsy and completely calm. You won’t feel anything, but you will still be conscious. After the procedure, it’s common to have little recollection of what happened.
After sedation, we advise you to take things steady. You can return home, but we ask you to arrange a lift and ensure that somebody stays with you while the effects wear off. It’s best to avoid exercise, drinking alcohol, operating machinery and driving for 24 hours.
