Dealing with a Broken Tooth

If you’ve been injured in an accident, or you’ve broken a tooth playing sport, don’t panic. Call us, and we’ll do everything we can to fit you in, and restore your tooth as quickly as possible. In the meantime, try and protect your tooth, and apply an ice pack if you’re in pain. If you can manage it, rinse your mouth out with warm water. If the pain is intense, take some painkillers.

When you get to the clinic, our dental team will assess your injuries, and hopefully, patch you up in no time at all. We may use a crown or a filling to repair a broken tooth. If the tooth is just chipped, it may possible to restore it using a technique called bonding.

If you’ve lost a tooth, it may be possible to save the tooth if you can reach us quickly. Locate the tooth and keep it clean and moist. Hold it by the crown (not the root) at all times, and store it in a glass of milk or water. If we act quickly, our dentists may be able to re-implant the tooth back into the socket.

If the tooth is severely damaged or it’s not possible to save a tooth that has been knocked out, there are some excellent tooth replacement options out there, so try not to worry. We can use bridges, dentures and dental implants to replace lost teeth.
