Cultural nostalgia not only seems pretty rife at the moment, it also seems pretty desperate. Yes, vinyl records are back in, but so is that most bloated and decadent of decades: The 80’s. Even if modern trends seem so desperate to look backward that they will even scavenge from the era that brought us the ‘Flock of Seagulls’ haircut, one thing that should make you pleased to be alive in 2013 is progress we have made in orthodontic treatment. To put it bluntly: You youngsters sure can get some pretty sweet braces…

Invisalign

Braces aren’t always deemed culturally attractive. It is sad and I wish it wasn’t so, but so things seem to go. Many people with fixed braces probably wished their pair could’ve been invisible. Thankfully, Invisalign braes pretty much are! They are a series of clear plastic aligners which gradually shift your teeth into position. The treatment isn’t suited to major orthodontic work and you may need to wear them for anywhere between 3 months and 3 years, but no one will notice you are wearing them regardless!

Lingual braces

They guys at lingual literally turned the fixed brace inside out. How do you hide a fixed metal brace? Put it on the inside of your teeth. Unless you routinely let your friends inspect the inside of your mouth, it will be doubtful that your lingual braces will ever be discovered. The main advantage these have over aligner treatments is that they are not removable: Fixed braces remove the ability to delay treatment by forgetting to put your aligner back in.

The Inman aligner

This little beast isn’t quite as invisible as the Invisalign system, but it is hard to spot and is also very fast. This particular piece of kit is best suited to correcting your front teeth. It can, however, do this in record breaking time: Between 6 weeks and 6 months. I would like to remind you here that conventional brace treatment can take up to 3 years to complete! The aligner is cable of doing this thanks to a special system which gently pushes your teeth. You only need the one aligner for treatment, it is affordable and it is removable!
