Articles Make Sure Loose Dentures Don’t Ruin Your Winter

How can we help?

Dentures can make a real difference to a person’s life. Whether replacing just one or two teeth or a full set, dentures can return any confidence lost due to a damaged smile.

However, there are some drawbacks to wearing dentures, which include the need for intensive cleaning and problems with the loose fit of dentures, thus causing irritation and sore gums.

Why are my dentures loose?

The main reason for dentures becoming loose is shrinking jaw bone, which happens as we get older and lose bone density. This reduction in size and volume can cause dentures to become loose, which usually requires denture adjustment.

Other common reasons for loose dentures involve everyday wear and tear, hard foods and even thorough cleaning of the dentures.

Hard foods

Hard foods can damage and crack dentures over time and while it doesn’t mean tasty, sweet foods are off the table completely, it would be smart to be aware of these risks and moderate yourself appropriately.

The problem with loose dentures

Knowing that your dentures are loose can make you very self conscious, as you don’t want them to slip out in the middle of conversation, or during mealtimes.

How can loose dentures be fixed?

There are a number of ways to fix loose dentures, which largely depend on what type of dentures you have and could include denture fixatives, pastes or dental implants.

If you do feel that your dentures are becoming loose the best thing to do is to contact your dentist and see what they recommend. Going for regular check-ups will allow your dentist to continually assess your dentures and make amendments when necessary.
