Articles Learn All About Dental Bridges
Dental bridges can help you replace several missing teeth, which you may have lost due to tooth decay, gum disease or a dental injury.
How can a bridge help me restore my smile?
A bridge is attached to the teeth surrounding your missing teeth or can also be attached to dental implants for a more solid foundation. A bridge can hold several teeth and is made to fit your mouth and facial aesthetics using the highest quality dental materials. There are several types of dental bridge, which include:
Traditional bridge
This type of bridge relies on two healthy teeth, one on either side of the missing tooth gap, used to hold the bridge in place. Crowns are most often used to create this connection and attached to the two healthy teeth to hold the bridge in place.
Cantilever bridge
A cantilever bridge is required if only one healthy tooth is available to hold the bridge. This again will require a crown to hold the tooth in place along with the attached bridge.
Maryland bridge
A Maryland bridge is used when a bridge is required at the front of the mouth. The bridge in this instance is held in place with wires bonded to the backs of the teeth surrounding the tooth gap.
Dental implants and bridges
New dental technology means that dental bridges can now be held in place with dental implants. These are titanium metal posts that are fitted into the jawbone to replace the missing tooth roots. Dental implants in London provide extra stability to bridges, dentures and crowns.
