Sleepless nights can soon take their toll on you. If you live with a snorer, or you’re confronted by angry, tired housemates every morning, it’s time to take action. Snoring is a very common problem, but in most cases, it’s a temporary issue. If you snore on a regular basis, it’s unlikely that you’re going to stop suddenly, and this is where we can help you.
There are lots of different reasons why people snore. The actual noises that you hear during the night are caused by vibrating of the soft tissue at the back of the throat. In many cases, people find that they snore when they’re suffering with a cough or cold, or after they’ve been drinking. Alcohol causes the muscles in the throat to relax. Sometimes, snoring can also be linked to being overweight or to your sleeping position. You’re much more likely to snore if you lie on your back, rather than your side. Smokers are also more likely to snore than non-smokers.
If you’ve tried changing your lifestyle, and your sleeping position, and you still have a problem with snoring, this may be a sign that you’re not getting enough oxygen during the night, and you may need help.
We offer two treatment methods, which are designed to improve air flow while you sleep. The first is a mandibular repositioning device, which helps to increase air flow by adjusting the jaw position. The lower jaw is pushed forward slightly, and this helps to open up the airway, and increase oxygen flow. This is the most commonly used type of treatment for snoring.
The second option is a tongue retaining appliance, which helps to open up the airway by holding the tongue in position.
If snoring is ruining your life or disturbing the peace in your household, we are here to help. There’s nothing worse than trying to battle on when you’re tired and you’re running on empty, so call us today, and hopefully, we’ll have you sleeping soundly in no time.
