CT scans and implant treatment

CT scans are used widely in medicine, but they also have a role to play in dentistry. CT scanners produce incredibly detailed images of inside the body, which provide much greater accuracy than traditional X-rays. At Harley Street Dental Studio, we use CT scan images to pinpoint the optimum location for implants, small titanium devices, which replace natural tooth roots.

Implants are placed inside small openings in the jaw bone and to maximise the chance of successful treatment, we use the detailed images to locate the best possible site for the new socket. We can also the CT images to show patients where the implant will be located and explain the treatment process in more detail.

What happens when you have a CT scan?

Having a CT scan is nothing to worry about, and you won’t experience any pain while you have your scan. The procedure is very quick and your dentist will explain what will happen before your appointment. This scan will only involve your face and it takes just a few minutes. Before the scan, you’ll be asked to remove anything loose, such as jewellery and glasses, and the team will be on hand if you do have any questions or concerns.
