About bruxism

Bruxism is the medical name for grinding the teeth. In the vast majority of cases, this is a subconscious action, which occurs when the top and bottom arches clash together while you’re sleep as a result of movement of the jaw joints. When you grind your teeth, you tend to be asleep, so you may not even not that you do it.

Bruxism is one of the most common causes of TMJ disorder, a symptom of which is chronic headaches. TMJ disorder affects the TMJ, the temporomandibular joint. This is the joint, which joins your lower jaw to your skull. Other symptoms include stiffness in the jaw, clicking or popping noises, and a limited range of movement. You may find that pain is worse in the mornings. If you do grind your teeth, you may also notice signs of wear and tear on your teeth. Your teeth may feel weaker than normal, and the surfaces may appear worn and uneven.
