About oral cancer

Oral cancer is a type of cancer that affects the soft tissue in the mouth and throat. When you have a routine check-up, your dentist will examine the inside of your mouth, your tongue and your throat to check for potential signs of mouth cancer or abnormalities that warrant further investigation. You may never have even noticed your dentist doing this, but going for regular check-ups could save your life, as the earlier mouth cancer is treated, the higher the chance of success.

Symptoms of oral cancer include:

• Red or white patches in the mouth
• Abnormal lumps or swelling
