Articles Gaps in Your Smile? How Dental Bridges Could be For You

How can we help?

If you have gaps in your smile, this can affect your oral health, as well as your confidence. If you’ve lost a tooth or a number of teeth, we have some incredible treatment options here at Harley Street Dental Studio. One of the most popular options is the dental bridge.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a type of restoration, which is designed to replace a missing tooth. The aim of a dental bridge is to literally bridge the gap between remaining teeth when a natural tooth has been lost as a result of trauma, injury or gum disease. There are a few different types of bridge available, but the most commonly used is a traditional fixed bridge. The fixed bridge is made up of a false tooth known as a pontic, and a crown on each side. The bridge is fitted to fill the gap and restore the beauty of the smile.

Dental bridges can be manufactured using a range of different materials, including precious and non-precious metals and ceramics, such as porcelain. Many patients choose ceramics because they produce the most aesthetically-pleasing results. Bridges are bespoke, and they are designed to fit the gap left behind by the lost tooth perfectly. Bridges don’t last forever, but they are a much cheaper alternative to dental implants.

What does the treatment process involve?

In most cases, we can fit a bridge in just 2 sessions. During the first appointment, we will create an impression of the teeth, which will then be sent away to our expert dental technicians. Your bridge will be created, and we can then fit and secure it during the second session. You won’t experience any pain when your bridge is fitted, and you can start enjoying your new smile immediately.

Taking care of your bridge

You should take care of your bridge in the same way as your natural teeth. If you look after your bridge properly, it should last up 15 years. When you have routine check-ups, your dentist will have a good look at your bridge, and check that it is in good condition.
