STb Social 6 involves wires and brackets being fixed to the backs of the teeth, treating overcrowded or gappy teeth in as little as 16 weeks. STb Social 6 lingual braces offer a thinner, flatter and therefore more comfortable alternative to conventional brackets and wires. The state-of-the-art technology used decreases the length of treatment time and reduces rubbing in the mouth. The fact that they are fitted behind the teeth also means they are unnoticeable and less conspicuous than traditional braces.
Treatment is made up of 4 stages, involving an initial consultation to discuss your concerns and assess your suitability for treatment. Once the braces have been constructed, rounded brackets will then be fitted with one or two wires. The last stage involves looking after the braces with good oral hygiene and a few check-ups with the dentist to see if any adjustments are required.
Treatment time varies depending on each person but usually takes 16 weeks at most.
Because Social 6 brackets do not have elastic bands holding them together, as with traditional braces, they are less likely to collect food debris and plaque and are therefore easier to keep clean.
There may be an initial period of discomfort as you get used to the braces, but this will soon disappear. The brackets used only put gentle pressure on the teeth and so are more comfortable and allow for effective movement.
There will be a little pressure initially, which may temporarily affect your speech for a few days. Once your tongue is used to the wires and brackets your speech will return to normal.
