Articles Cosmetic bonding: The unsung hero at your London dentist

How can we help?

If you are thinking about changing the appearance of your teeth you may have considered treatments such as veneers or crowns to help achieve your perfect smile. However, these treatments can often be expensive and sometimes may require invasive procedures to prepare the tooth. If you have suffered mild cases of chipped or cracked teeth, then a better and cheaper option may be cosmetic bonding.

Cosmetic bonding is made of resin, which once set becomes very resilient. Cosmetic bonding plays a key role in almost all cosmetic dental treatment and can rejuvenate and restore tired or damaged smiles.

The use of cosmetic bonding to improve your teeth can be used for the replacement of old metal fillings, for a new and more natural look. Cosmetic bonding is also often used to repair damaged tooth enamel, or to restore the tooth’s shape after cracking or chipping.

The procedure itself is pretty straightforward. First your dentist will mix the cosmetic bonding material to the right consistency and colour, so it perfectly matches your teeth. The tooth that requires bonding is then prepared, which involves mildly roughening the surface of the tooth so the bonding is able to grip it. The bonding is then applied to the tooth and is sculpted into the desired shape. Finally a dental laser is used to secure and set the cosmetic bonding material.

The use of cosmetic bonding is both durable and effective and works just as well as other cosmetic procedures at a fraction of the price, making it the unsung hero of dentistry.
