Accidents can crop up when you least expect it and dental injuries are fairly common.
There are various types of dental injury, as well as additional scenarios in which you may need urgent dental care, for example if you have very severe dental pain. If you need help, we are here. We endeavour to provide same-day appointments for our patients who need urgent treatment and our aim is to relieve your from pain as quickly as possible.
If you break a tooth, it’s best to see a dentist as soon as you can. Sometimes, you can tell straightaway if you’ve fractured a tooth, while other times it may only be confirmed when a dentist carries out an X-ray. Symptoms of a broken tooth include pain, sensitivity and weakness in the tooth. If the tooth is fractured, we may recommend restorative treatment, such as a new crown or an inlay or onlay.
If you’ve just chipped a tooth, it’s a good idea to see your dentist, but there is unlikely to be a need for urgent treatment. Chips are usually fairly minor, but we have some great restorative options, such as dental bonding, which can be used to repair the tooth and make it look more attractive.
If you’ve lost a tooth, there’s no need to panic. If you can get to a dental clinic very quickly, it may be possible to save the tooth. Once you’ve located the missing tooth, hold it by the crown and gently wipe it clean. Place it in a glass of milk or hold it in your mouth between your gum and the inside of your cheek. Never hold the tooth by the root.
If you can see a dentist soon after the incident, they may be able to re-implant the tooth into its socket.
If you end up losing the tooth, there are treatment options available to you, including dental bridges and dental implants.
