Articles Three Top Tips To Protecting Your Restorations

How can we help?

Restorative dental treatment is designed to patch up and protect your teeth. Examples of restorations include crowns, fillings and bridges. If you have restorations, here are 3 top tips to help you protect them:

  1. Keep up to date with dental checks: every time you see your dentist they will have a look at any fillings or crowns that you have and make sure that they’re in good shape and doing what they’re supposed to do. Ideally, we recommend check-ups every 6-9 months, but if you have issues between appointments, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
  2. Avoid very hard foods: the enamel is incredibly strong, but eating very hard foods can damage the teeth and tooth restorations. Examples include coated nuts, boiled sweets and popcorn kernels. We also strongly advise against using the teeth to try and cut or break anything, for example, pulling off clothing labels.
  3. Maintain good oral hygiene: it may not be possible for the actual restorations to become decayed, but it is possible for the surrounding tooth tissue to rot, so take good care of your teeth and make sure you devote at least 2 minutes every morning and evening to brushing.

If you have any questions about caring for your restorations, our dental team will be more than happy to help!
