Articles Three things you can do to help with Sensitive Teeth

How can we help?

The summer is looming and if you’re dreading the thought of biting into an ice lolly or sipping on ice-cold drinks, it’s time to stop sensitivity in its tracks. If you have sensitive teeth, here are 3 things you can do:

  1. Buy a new toothpaste: sensitivity occurs when the enamel becomes thin or worn and the nerves, which are contained in the dentine, become exposed. Buying sensitive toothpaste can help to alleviate pain and protect the enamel. If you’re not sure what to buy, your dentist will be happy to make some recommendations.
  2. See your dentist: if you have persistent pain linked to sensitivity, it’s a good idea to book a dental appointment. Sometimes sensitivity is an indicator of decay or weakened enamel, which we may be able to treat before it gets any worse.
  3. Use a straw: if you get pain when you drink cold drinks, ask for drinks to be served without ice and use a straw. Using a straw will help to prevent direct contain between the cold liquid and your tooth. Avoid swilling your drink around your mouth.

If you’re worried about sensitivity, there are things you can do to reduce pain and strengthen your teeth. Seek advice from your dentist if you’re struggling or your pain is getting worse.
