Articles Root Canal Done Right at Harley Street Dental Studio

How can we help?

Root canal infections aren’t just caused by decay and poor dental care, although these are common causes! Another big cause is old fillings. These shrink over long periods of time and the decay begins underneath the filling. Another cause is tooth grinding, which causes fractures, allowing bacteria into the nerves. You could also get a root canal infection following physical trauma such as banging your teeth, thus damaging the tooth nerves.

The treatment

Root canal treatment is actually simpler than many people realise. Treatment usually takes between one and two visits. You’ll be given anaesthetic before your dentist gently drills into the tooth to reach the nerves and vessels in its centre. Any damaged nerves or blood vessels will be removed and the empty root canal will be cleaned, filled and sealed. Some teeth have multiple root canals and therefore may require numerous visits.

Will there be any issues after the treatment?

You might feel mild discomfort after the aneasthetic has worn off. In this case, over the counter painkillers can be used to soothe symptoms. It’s rare for people to notice any lasting effects after treatment and any discomfort should be short-term.
