Spring is finally here, and what better excuse to spruce up your smile? If you’re keen on polishing your pearly whites this spring, here are 5 top tips:

  1. Invest in an electric toothbrush: electric toothbrushes are proven to remove plaque more effectively than manual brushes. If you don’t already have an electric toothbrush, it’s worth investing in one to achieve a deeper, more powerful clean. You don’t have to spend a fortune on an electric toothbrush. Even the basic models do a brilliant job. If you already own an electric brush, swap the brush head if you haven’t done so in the last 3-4 months.
  2. Set a timer: many of us live at our lives at a frantic pace. If you’re rushing to get ready, this may mean that you cut brushing short. To avoid this, set a timer and make sure you brush for two minutes each time. Some electric brushes come with an inbuilt timer. If you don’t have a watch to hand, use your phone or brush along to a song on the radio.
  3. Book a dental check-up: if you haven’t been to the dentist in the last 6-9 months, call and make an appointment today! Your dentist can give your teeth a good clean and check that you don’t have any signs of decay or gum disease.
  4. See a dental hygienist: dental hygienists are experts in providing cleaning treatments. They use advanced cleaning techniques to eliminate plaque and tartar and remove surface stains, giving your smile a healthy glow.

Embrace inter-dental cleaning: most of us know how important brushing is, but it’s also hugely beneficial to clean between your teeth. After brushing, use dental floss or inter-dental brushes to clean the cracks and gaps between your teeth. This can help to prevent discolouration, as well as reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease.
