Articles Do You Have A Dental Emergency?

How can we help?

If you find yourself in a situation where you need urgent dental help, we are here for you. We understand that dental emergencies can happen at any time of day or night and provide a comprehensive service to ensure you get the treatment you need rapidly.

Examples of dental emergencies

Dental emergencies are issues that require urgent attention. Examples include:

  • severe dental pain that comes on very suddenly or gets worse quickly
  • dental abscesses
  • broken teeth
  • jaw fractures (these should be investigated at an Accident and Emergency unit)
  • dislodged teeth (also known as avulsion)

What should I do in an emergency?

If you need urgent dental treatment, call the clinic and we will see you as soon as possible. We can also provide advice over the telephone to help you to feel more comfortable in the meantime.

If you have had a tooth knocked out, it is important to act quickly as it may be possible to save your tooth. If you are able to locate the missing tooth, gently wipe it clean, holding the tooth crown, and then try and insert it back into the socket. If you can’t do this, place the tooth in a glass of milk or hold it carefully inside your mouth between the inside of the cheek and your gums and get to the clinic as quickly as you can.

Preventing dental emergencies

Often, accidents are inevitable, but sometimes there are measures you can employ to help reduce the risk of injury and these include:

  • wearing a seat belt
  • wearing a protective mouth guard when you play sport
  • avoiding using your teeth to bite down on bottle tops
  • avoiding fighting
  • seeing your dentist for regular check-ups
  • maintaining good oral hygiene
